Welcome to STIR!

STIR stands for Students Teach Involvement in Research and it is a non-profit, educational program aimed to provide guidance for students on various research techniques. The program features 6 online sessions in which students will learn crucial research skills, computer skills, resume building/interview skills, as well as tips for efficient networking. The format of the program will involve direct instruction followed by interactive activities for students to practice their new skills.

The co-founders Sapna Garg and Enrica Kumar were both STEM students at Bergen County Academies, a magnet school in NJ. Upon entering college as freshmen, they found that they were fortunate enough to receive opportunities that were usually catered towards upperclassmen due to their competitive prior research experience offered by their high school. This in turn opens the doors for a wider range of opportunities starting from a younger age.

STIR has the main goal of developing students’ skills in topics that are not always taught in school. Through this program, students will better understand how to portray themselves as competitive applicants for any sort of school, internship, or job application. Additionally, we hope to fuel students’ passion for the fields that they are aiming to go into through the exploration of the various experiences available to them.

“Employment of market research analysts is projected to grow 22 percent from 2020 to 2030, much faster than the average for all occupations. About 96,000 openings for market research analysts are projected each year, on average, over the decade.” ~ U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics
